Graduation project
In praise of indigo
Clara Le Grelle
“The colour transforms gradually, showing the beauty of passing time"
What: An exploration of the magic of indigo dyeing and how we can bring it into our homes.
Why: The story of the indigo plant is centuries old and weaves its way across oceans and global cultures. ‘In Praise of Indigo’ celebrates the beauty of this precious pigment and its dyeing process. Reviving the use of indigo is a way to revitalise the fascinating cultural heritage attached to it. It also encourages sustainable production methods with its artisanal approach.
How: Clara Le Grelle adapted traditional dyeing techniques and used them to colour textiles and wood, revealing multiple uses and shades of this natural blue.
