Chicken-Object-Subject

Christoph Dichmann

In ancient cultures, animal produce was the reward of hard work. In the modern supermarket however, meat has become merely an object to purchase without further thought. ‘Chicken-Object-Subject’ by Christoph Dichmann aims to instill an active connection with industrially processed food. He designed a T-shirt as a daily tribute. It bears subtle traces including a ring like those used for tagging the chickens and a small 3D-replica of a bone between layers of fabric. In wearing the shirt, we take on remnants of the animal’s identity. Reminded of an existence beyond the grocery shelves, we can identify with the anonymous plastic packages on display.
