Uncertainty of the Contemporary

Christian Heikoop

Today’s clothing industry is driven by fast fashion. Catwalk trends must hit the high street as quickly as possible. Current production methods are not designed for this relentless pace. New, smarter techniques are needed that can save time, manpower and material. With ‘Uncertainty of the Contemporary’ Christian Heikoop explores how to create ready-made garments straight from the loom. By rethinking classic patterns and weaving in multiple layers, folds and pockets in flat fabric can become sleeves, trouser legs and torsos. Entire outfits can be made in a matter of minutes and come with a fresh look to match.
