Through the Kitchen
Through the Kitchen proposes a new typology for a functional and atmospheric restaurant space, shifting the design perspective from the customer to the staff. It challenges the balance between transparency and privacy in response to the increasing presence of open kitchens. The project presents a partition-to-shelf system that allows staff to make specific visual choices and gives customers insight into aspects of the kitchen routine. Finding a balance between function and comfort, the project explores the unspoken interactions between staff and guests. The design emphasises what is left visible, whether it is the choreography of silhouettes or the precise execution of hands at work.
