A Tribute to Het Stenen Hoofd
Het Stenen Hoofd is an empty plot on the banks of the river IJ in Amsterdam. Since the mid-nineties Stichting Het Stenen Hoofd has been committed to preserving the site as a fringe of the city, a place for recreation and small-scale cultural events. It is protected against commercial interests and may be used for temporary purposes only. In dialogue with the neighbourhood, Charlie Flotho introduced a temporary pavilion that pays tribute to the inherent qualities of the site, emphasising the wide view over the water and the exposure to weather and wind. Three sails can be freely arranged to form a roof that protects from rain, provides shade in the summertime and moves with the direction of the wind.
