In Westland near The Hague, where Carly Zegers grew up, greenhouses stretch to the horizon. At night they light the sky on fire in shades of neon pink and orange. ‘Cyber Ceramics’ is a series of hung objects, inspired by this ‘city of glass’. Using a digital program, Carly transforms seemingly dry weather data into textured compositions mirroring the local climate at specific times. These shapes are then 3D printed in ceramics and combined with coloured plexiglass, evoking luminescent greenhouses at night. The process navigates the fine line between controlled software environments and intuitive compositional play. Through these objects, Carly invites us to re-evaluate the often-overlooked aesthetic allure of Westland, challenging prevailing perceptions of a place typically deemed unremarkable.
