I Know I Will Still Exist But My Body Will Be Gone

Camille Wiesel

How are notions of the digital afterlife co-created between humans and machines? Camille Wiesel initiated a conversation about the notion of digital death with artificial intelligences. Using the Replika chatbot and GPT2 Text Generator as oracles, her words became the machine’s words became hers. Through this intimate contamination a cyborg unsure of their own limits and thoughts manifested. A prediction of a transitional space also emerged. It could be an afterlife, a virtual hereafter or a glimpse of a parallel existence where ghosts, remains and second-selves evolve. An embroidered physical artefact and a video game-like virtual installation remains.
