Storied fish: From sea to plate

Brogen Berwick

Post Brexit, UK coastal towns were promised revival towards their fishing industry. In Brogen Berwick’s hometown of Gorleston-On-Sea only one fisherman remains, and what they demand most from the industry is that fish are a public asset and common property. However, political decisions between the UK and Europe have shadowed the progression of any fishing rights. With a focus on privitisation, Brogen has researched the political partitioning of the Greater North Sea and how the divisions between the bordering countries affect fishermen of all scales. ‘Storied fish’ aims to raise consumer awareness and show the maritime imbalances found within the industry. A mixed media installation navigates you through a data divided seascape and simulates a future, speculative, fish shopping experience.
