The Global Warming Chair

Boris Maas

"How to make a piece of furniture that matters."

WHAT A chair that makes us aware how far below sea-level we live in the Netherlands. Intended to go in the home, it acts as an invitation to discuss within a private context how global issues are affecting us. WHY With rising sea levels due to global warming, Boris Maas illustrates the need to stay safe in lower- lying regions. The unusually tall chairlegs lift you above the tide. HOW Made from smoked European oak, this play on an iconic design piece has no obvious use. It stretches the mind of the observer who imagines living on extensions.
