MUJI selects DAE alumni for Ginza exhibition

ATELIER MUJI GINZA – a cultural space in the heart of Tokyo’s famous Ginza shopping district created by the design brand MUJI – is focusing on the work of DAE alumni for its latest exhibition Research! Design with Fascinating Processes.

The gallery space inside the Atelier building hosts four exhibitions a year, with the aim of sharing “diverse opinions and values” that can help shape the future.

Research! Design with Fascinating Processes features the work of three different design studios run by DAE graduates: Christien Meindertsma, Simón Ballen Botero, and Satomi Minoshima + Pauline Agustoni

Here’s some more information about the exhibition from ATELIER MUJI GINZA:

We are surrounded by many objects in our daily life. As we browse the tables where they are displayed and sold, we choose things from the perspective of the user to bring them into our lives; we select things we like, things that are beautiful or useful. However, what if each object started to tell us about the research and thought process behind it? What would we notice, and how would our lives change?

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
This exhibition visualizes new design horizons through the works of three groups of DAE graduates, young artists who are now attracting international attention: Christien Meindertsma, Simón Ballen Botero, and Satomi Minoshima + Pauline Agustoni. What they have in common is a unique method: thorough research, asking fundamental questions about why we should create even more new objects in the present, and including the very process of developing projects as a part of their works.

The works of these three artists, which fascinates MUJI through their research and processes, may have the power to turn our curiosity towards things behind the “objects”, and transform the landscape, sensitivity and aesthetic awareness of everyday objects that we have through the eyes of simple ‘users’ until now.
