Meaningful Deconstruction

Anabel Poh

‘Meaningful Deconstruction’ is a series of deconstructed and reconstructed textiles made from leftover scarves from the production process. The redesigns reframe how designers upcycle objects and how consumers value the outcome. Many objects are discarded during production because of tiny errors. But should we only go for items in mint condition, or can we extend the life cycle of the rejected articles by turning the unmaking into a respectful homage to its making? With slowness, tenderness and cultural craft embedded in the upcycling process, the material retains its original quality while revealing new properties that expand its possible functions. The different techniques of deconstruction and reconstruction that Anabel Poh discovered could be reapplied to other leftover textiles.
