Fiesta 333
Another academic year at Design Academy Eindhoven draws to a close, and with it returns the third edition of the school’s informal closing event, Fiesta 333. The changing of the name established the event becoming a staple on the academic calendar, as a way to create a collective moment for one last soiree after a busy year where spending time together is all too often a rarity.
“Spring Together was initially designed to be a spring event, however it always ended up happening at the end of the year, effectively functioning as the unofficial year end event, mirroring the Opening of the Academy Year that is organised by the school. We think it is great to have this book end event organised by us along other students. It helps create a sense of community. We are part of the Academy and we want to contribute to its livelihood and create an event where everyone is welcomed.” Remarked BA students and Student Council members Benji Sheppard and Lena Kamińska.
The 2024 iteration found a new outdoor location on the steps of Lichtplein. As students and staff members gathered, they were welcomed by a cake spanning three tables long, ready to be decorated with thick turquoise buttercream and an assortment of berries and candy, courtesy of graduating students Marie Kolarova and Myeonga Seo of Cakethingzzz, another student initiative funded by the Community Experiment Grant. After the long cakes were fully dressed, photographed, cut and shared, Ache Wang of Elevator Radio got the festivity started with the Radio cart.
With fourth year examinations only days before, the relief, excitement and joy in the air was palpable. The uncertainty of passing exams and the question of a new future location no longer hovering over the heads of the student body, after the recent announcement of the school’s decision to remain in the city of Eindhoven. School community members were jubilant attendees, enjoying the sun and standing together all across the square, happy to be on the other side of another year.
On behalf of the community, we would like to take a moment to extend our appreciation and congratulations towards the Student Council as well as the various student initiatives who contributed in organising a very lively edition of Fiesta 333. Thank you Adi Romański, Benji Sheppard, Lena Kamińska, Marie Kolarova, Myeonga Seo, Ache Wang, James McCamy and Zoé Bruhat. We hope to see you next year!
