Studio UnIdentified x Kvadrat
From 19th April to 26th June 2022, 26 students of studio UnIdentified (now studio Body Building) have been working together with Danish textile company Kvadrat.
Kvadrat supplied the studio with both soft textile material (dead stock fabric) and hard material (Really, made from recycled fibres) to experiment with, focussing on sustainability and material characteristics. The students were given the assignment to experiment with the materials to find new ways and options for the materials, proposing different potentials for its use.
The collaboration kicked-off with an inspiration day in Tilburg: visiting a factory of Kvadrat and paying a visit to the city's Textile Museum. Back in the academy, working as a group, all different aspects and characteristics of each material were tested, looking for opportunities.
Later, groups were formed, based on different focus areas. For example the transition of a hard to flexible material, colouring options, connections between the different materials, sound qualities and footwear.
The results of the research were presented during the end term presentation on 26th June, 2022, to Kvadrat in a group exhibition, with great success!
