The Work of Art That Saves You
Alissa Guillouët
‘The Work Of Art That Saves You’ reconstructs the quest for liberation through art, in the form of a never-ending procession performed by a single person. It explores the belief that art is inherently sacred. In times of spiritual emptiness, uncertainty and ambiguity, and in a largely secularised Western world, art appears to be a potential tool of salvation for the human being. Holding symbolic objects, one at a time, of art and sacrality – wings, a flag, a frame, a wheel, a stick, a ladder – the solitary individual repeats, endlessly, specific and simple actions. This procession is an attempt to reach a moment of transcendence, for both the performer and the viewer.
