Re-float tactics

Aleksandra Fixl

"Throughout the 20th century, advancements in transparent, flat glass led to the development of the curtain wall, shaping a building's impression through its interior rather than exterior construction. Today's colourless, low-iron windows, with an improved adaptability with radiation-filtering coatings, have replaced older models, integrating various functions previously performed by the window, into the glass itself.

However, its current state of technical elaboration hampers recycling, with most end-of-life building glass ending up in landfills due to identification challenges related to its composition, applied treatments and origin. ‘Re-Float Tactics’ highlights the potential of reused window glass, using industrial coatings as a tactic for visualizing the genealogy of the glass. It aims to restore the outer pane's value and challenge architecture's obsession with transparency."
