Designing the Just Transition
There is a slogan in the climate justice movement: “Transition is inevitable — Justice is not.” What does that mean, and how is it different than “net zero” and other eco-modernist fantasies? Can it be (and should it be) designed? What are the ingredients, rightsholders and methodologies needed? Through climate justice activism, postcapitalist design research and housing cooperative projects, I will share some learnings for the eco-social designers of the near future.
