Everyday Ornament

Adèle Vivet

Everyday Ornament' takes the position that decoration remains important in highlighting the singularity of an object, our way of life, our history, and political, cultural, and social motives. Meanwhile, ‘less is more has’ become a conceit of the upper classes. Vivet’s purpose is to reveal and re-introduce ornament, using ‘adding more’ as a methodology for exploring and playing with the discourses built by high society. Through an appreciation of historic decorations, the project explores how their abundance and scarcity come to represent shifting values through different eras. The designer then reinterprets her connection to ornament through the materialisation of her own drawings.
