Skaut
To most of us, electrical power is something that’s always there, but worldwide there are still many off-grid households. During his internship at a wind turbine company, Adams Ponnis noticed there is a market for small turbines providing houses or companies in remote areas with electricity. ‘Skaut’ offers a sustainable alternative to the noisy and polluting diesel generators that are widely used now. This small vertical-axis wind turbine blends into its surroundings. It does not need a big tower of its own, but can easily be placed on existing structures, such as billboard poles, telecom and electricity towers, and even trees. Adams is still working on an operating technique based on magnetic levitation – to make it even more sustainable.
