Stacked Street

Yuval Harel (and Leopold Inkapööl)

How public is public space? Everything out there seems to be fixed, stuck and frozen, its arrangement and organization predetermined by the municipality. Can we – the public – loosen it up a little and gain a sense of ownership? In a guerrilla street campaign, Yuval Harel and Leopold Inkapööl encourage us to use our own creativity to liven up the city. They take what they find, from loose pavement tiles to stray kerbstones or broken bricks, and give them back to the community as a rebellious series of street furniture. The graffiti-like interventions provide a starting point for a bottom-up rearrangement of the city. Their signature is the coloured mortar they use; what will be yours?
