Presence of Absence
"‘Presence of Absence’ is a metamorphic structure that creates a space for hospital visitors to therapeutically contemplate the beauty of change.
Through multiple hospital visits accompanying his terminally ill parent, Theo Colin-Morrison realised that there was a lack of contemplative, restful spaces and longed for a more serene environment.
Theo designed a pavilion with hanging ropes along which saline-saturated water drips. Over time, salt crystals on the ropes form, grow and dissolve again, cyclically.
Experiencing such a naturally beautiful process may summon thoughts about changes from one state to another – metamorphosis, life, presence, absence – to help people adjust to the shifting circumstances of their lives."
