Transient Walls
As affordable housing shortages and our changing cosmopolitan values lead to more shared living arrangements, domesticity is evolving. Swantje Schulz embraces this shift, drawing inspiration from the vibrant, seemingly alive Wall of Babylon, which offered physical and spiritual protection to the Babylonians. Similarly, 'Transient Walls' is a communal space object. Its modularity allows for a ritual of building it, setting boundaries and creating community together with your new flatmates. Its wool cloud-shaped pieces are easily assembled to form playful patterns. Influenced by Escher's work, these patterns tell stories of interconnectedness and play, while symbolizing the positive potential in life's inevitable changes. Swantje examens the changing idea of ‘home’, where comfort needs to be created in collaboration with transience and a sense of connection.
