A Graphic Designer at The End of the World?
Santiago Gómez Rojas
What are graphic designers supposed to do amid an all-encompassing crisis like the ecological breakdown now being faced? Can a way out of a sixth mass extinction be visualised? Can catastrophes be speculated away? Is there a way to not commodify these discourses? These are some of the questions that led to an inquiry into the role of observers in this ongoing apocalypse, and the place (or lack thereof) of graphic design and design artefacts in these times. Through a performance video and studio installation Santiago Gómez attempts to make sense of what it means to hear and see ever-present depictions of an apocalyptic future.
