The Attention Lab

Pia Regenbrecht

Today’s digital environment is changing how the individual interacts with information. Overstimulated and overloaded, we practice behaviours such as skimming and multitasking to cope – attention spans are decreasing as we unlearn how to engage deeply with content. With ‘The Attention Lab’, Pia Regenbrecht hopes to build a sustainable relationship between the self and information. Regebrecht uses eye-tracking techniques to identify peaks in cognitive response during an individual’s interaction with their laptop. A quick, jerky fixation of the gaze on a small area of the screen reveals high personal interest. This data sheds light on selective perception, allowing users to look back at what they found interesting and providing tools for reflection and focus.
