Smartphone Destructor

Noud Sleumer

"Crushing your old smartphone is an opportunity to redefine its value."

WHAT Drop your old smartphone inside and this machine grinds it to bits, destroying any residual personal data. It is also the first step in the recycling process. A photo of the crushed pieces pops out afterwards as proof of a job well done. WHY What to do with our outdated phones? There is no clear next step. Donating them often does more harm than good; after just a few years of use they end up as toxic garbage in faraway countries. WOW Every phone contains some 42 precious materials. These can best be recycled safely and locally. Like an old-fashioned photo booth, the machine could become a standard public fixture. It is extra noisy to make its presence known.
