New Normal Trestle

Nathan Chan

The trestle leg is an almost perfect object, according to Nathan Chan. With a history dating back to medieval times, trestles have evolved into incredibly useful products, providing simple work surfaces in our studios, offices, and homes. Chan has improved the functionality by redesigning the hinges to allow for both the folding of the legs and adjustments in height. In one fluid motion, the trestle opens and the height is locked in place. ‘New Normal Trestle’ does not stray far from the archetype in form, but seeks to emphasise the simple elegance of its construction, and to forge greater harmony between the metal joints and wooden pieces.
