How metaphors mediate the expansion of the internet is represented in a narrated installation of an entangled network.
As the internet expanded, it took on a life of its own—a machine was born. The Machine’s limbs twisted and turned, reaching for the sunlight it needed for data transmissions and to shine with an otherworldly glow. Yet, when clouds obscure the sun, The Machine dims, its glow fading to a lifeless hue. Over time, The Machine grew larger and more advanced by following the movements of the clouds, while consuming resources and emitting pollution in its insatiable quest for sunlight. It now created clouds of its own, a suffocating veil that blocked the life-giving sun, casting a shadow over the land.… Myrna de Bruijn’s narrative and installation reflect how metaphors mediate the internet.
