Urban Futures

Miya Faßbender

# “As a generation that moves around so much and that is so affected by gentrification, we always complain about it, but we don’t always understand it.”

For all the Millennials priced out of the housing market, or for anyone who wonders why cities develop the way they do, Miya Faßbender presents the board game ‘Urban Futures’. Like Monopoly there are no regulations, so you can create your own version of a potential future cityscape and its character. But the power (and fun) of ‘Urban Futures’ lies in empathetic role-playing, where councillors, residents and investors are forced to communicate and negotiate to achieve their planning goals. By encouraging players to draw on their own experiences as urban citizens while acting within a role, the game informs, empowers, and teaches the importance of being open to the opinion of others.
