Mailmap

Miriam Van Eck

Transport maps – whether they are for subways, trains, trams or planes – show straight lines connected by nodes. The basic idea of cartography has always been a simplification. Yet the traveller experiences millions of deviations from the suggested route as a result of shaking, bumping and turning. The MailMap visualizes these perceptions. By sending this movement map by mail, the addressee receives a detailed registration of its journey, true to the route followed from one person to another. The trapped pencil makes accurate drawings in transit: the bumpier the road, the more lines on the map.
