Roofers

Miles Le Gras

## “By changing the context of this craft towards interior objects, I offer people direct access to story of the zinc roofers.”

‘Roofers’ is a tribute to the craftmanship of Parisian zinc roofers, who work in a centuries-old tradition. In the centre of Paris 70 per cent of the roofs are covered by zinc. The roof workers have to fit every piece of zinc by hand to the many corners and curbs of the architecture. However, the general public is unaware of their skills and the profession loses the interest of next generations, which is why the city of Paris has applied for recognition of the trade as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. To generate awareness of the craft, Miles Le Gras proposes a series of interior objects using the same tools and materials that the roofers use.
