A Designer Walks Into a Bar
Marta Rios Piza
Designers and comedians may not be so different. Both approach a situation from a certain point of view. But while designers attempt to overcome problems, comedians highlight them in a way that humours their audience. 'A Designer Walks Into a Bar' follows the life of Marta, a Social Design Master student and her struggle to position herself as a designer. Through humour, Marta’s objects foreground the catastrophic ways designed objects have failed us. In an environment where designers are conditioned to portray themselves as problem solvers, A Designer Walks Into a Bar questions this by shifting the viewer’s attention to the flaws in an object's making and its makers.
