Fountainhead
Marta Moskova
A giant rock made of metal sheets pays tribute to the meditative journey of creating by doing.
A giant rock suddenly emerged in the world. People gathered around this mystical object, pondering its origin, as water sprung and cascaded down its surface. They drank and washed themselves. A ritual of purification, for the copper had cleansed it of contaminants – physical, emotional, spiritual. This is Marta Moskova’s homage to the meditative journey of creation, to shaping and forming the rough universe through concentrated effort. Not by thinking but by doing. An object hammered from sheets of metal laid on rocks in the Bulgarian mountains to take the imprint of their texture, then moulded and blowtorched into shape, its iridescent surface bearing traces of its history. Too big to move, the boulder remains there, a force of life, just like the humans drawn to it.
