Microbe-Mate

Mark Wang

Humans first began developing relationships with non-human animals in the Mesolithic period, more than 10,000 years ago. As technology has advanced, mankind has been able to discover more species and even communicate and live with some of them. Does our relationship with non-human species need to change? Is it time to reevaluate how we interact with animals? This project presents a possible future in which humans dominate microorganisms and raise them as pets. It uses fiction to explore the emotions, contradictions and dilemmas in our relationships with other species, questioning a dynamic that has been unchallenged for a long period of human history.
