Sculptural Textiles
Marjolein Mulder
Fascinated by 3D folding techniques, Marjolein Mulder set out to explore their spatial effects. How does the chosen material dictate the function of a folded surface? Is it possible to make a folding wall that is both sculptural and functional? How can it contribute to the interior ambience? After lengthy hands-on experimentation, Marjolein developed a new type of textile, firm yet translucent, with a folding pattern that harbours a dynamic interplay of light and lines. “The structure meanders through the space and can be made more dense to create a separate environment,” she explains.
