E-topia

Marion Foulquier

“Machines influence our lives, no matter where we are”

What: E.topia is a stop-motion movie about an Instagram robot that ends up on a fictive electronics dump in Africa. Why: Changes in fashion and planned obsolescence mean that over 40 tonnes of electronic waste are dumped every year. Marion Foulquier art directed and produced a film to raise awareness about our relation to modern technology in our digitalised world. How: Set in a fictive colossal e-waste dump and one of most poisonous places in the world, Marion’s seven-minute animation film features Violet, an Instagram robot. Found and repaired by a girl, Violet follows her new owner into a world she wasn't designed for. This meeting is the confrontation between two realities that were not supposed to meet.
