Lay me down
Mariko van Veen
A tactile installation made of ceramic casts of the body highlights the beauty and diversity of human curves.
The human body is often viewed in a limited way and judged by narrow standards of beauty. However, the body is a complex and multifaceted organism with a wide range of shapes, forms, and movements that can be appreciated in many different ways. One of the most striking aspects of the body is its curves, which can be appreciated as abstract shapes with an inherent beauty of their own. Each curve tells a unique tale, a testament to the diversity and individuality that make us who we are. Mariko van Veen brought these abstract shapes together in an installation piece built out of ceramic casts of the body. The unique contours and patterns that emerge are determined by the way you ‘lay me down’.
