Apathy, Denial and Misfortune

Marcis Lapins

“Space exploration overshadows what is happening on Earth”

What: Three robotic creatures, inspired by the Mars rovers. But instead of exploring the possibility of life on a faraway planet, they evaluate life on Earth. Why: Since 2003, NASA has had three rovers on Mars, called Spirit, Curiosity and Opportunity. Their goal: to find out if the human race could ever inhabit Mars. But did we already give up on Earth? If these rovers were engineered for Earth, could they teach us something about human behaviour? How: Meet Apathy, Denial and Misfortune. They collectively draw attention to the destructive attitude that we have towards our own planet. Their disrupted functionality highlights the human struggle to solve local issues, while looking for answers elsewhere.
