Girasole

Filmed in Tropea, Calabria, on the southernmost tip of Italy, this documentary tells the story about a place stuck in time, a deep culture, a struggle to define your role within a community, and within a family. It is, in many ways, the story of Luca Muscia. This documentary examines Calabrian society through the lens of gender and masculinity. Luca explores with family and friends the historical roots of the culture. He found himself chasing acceptance and community, hunting down aspects of himself that he has never been given the chance to properly explore. The project is an attempt to find the answers to his own questions about what it means to be a man, a good father, and a good son.
