The Party Scene

Self-organised techno parties have become sites for police violence and state repression in France. Over the past two years people have died and been mutilated at the hands of police. Footage of this is never shared in the media. Instead the media stigmatises and misrepresents partygoers, blaming them for COVID19 pandemic restrictions. The Party Scene is an archive of material from partygoers typically shared in private Facebook groups, unlisted Youtube channels and independent media. Bringing this personal material into an institutional context and form, the project challenges public perception of the events and participants. It is a reflection on counterculture as social critique.
