‘Olifantenpaadje’ (shortcut) is an investigation into the inclusion of young children in a design process. The project proposes various workshops to empower the children’s creativity and give them a voice on societal challenges within cultural environments. The workshops use narration, illustration and acting as tools to help the children go through the conceptualisation of a project close to them. To test the concept, two groups of children were stimulated to come up with new aesthetics and perspectives on how cultural events can still take place in a 1.5-metre society. The outcome shows cultural institutions the value of collaborating with children to discover new approaches to today’s issues.
