Graduation project
Digital Seasoning
Laila Snevele
"Our mind creates taste expectations before food reaches the mouth."
WHAT
An installation that creates a physical taste sensation without showing edible ingredients or releasing their scent. Just looking at five expressive faces on screen already activates the taste neurons in your brain.
WHY
‘Digital Seasoning’ reminds us that elements like colour, texture and facial mimicry can create or intensify the perception of taste. The project forges a link between two human addictions — screens and food — and opens up new possibilities for the food industry: to create more intense flavours with less unhealthy ingredients.
HOW
There’s a face for each taste: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami. Meet them all and find out who’s the one with a sweet tooth and who leaves a sour tang.
