Canopy Column
Our feet serve as our foundational support, anchoring us to the ground with their complex intricacy of muscles and sensors. With ‘Canopy Column’, KyungSeo Min wanted to get back in touch with the most primal use of our feet: tree climbing. The column is designed to be integrated into architectural environments which are typically defined by flat surfaces, which do not challenge our bodies in the ways that they are evolutionarily programmed to be used. The morphological and textural characteristics of different types of trees are integrated into the climbing device, mimicking the feeling of broken branches, knots and bark. These serve as a grip for our bare feet, as a way of reconnecting to our primal instincts every day.
