Graduation project
Underneath A Surface
Kita Keus
"I have added light and texture to the recipe."
WHAT
A material study of linoleum, raising it from the floor to showcase it as a precious and versatile material for a wide variety of applications.
WHY
During her internship at Forbo, Kita Keus experimented with innovative adaptations of this natural material. She found a new use for old printing blocks that were originally used for colouring the products once dry. She now uses them to embosses the soft sheets at an earlier stage.
WHY
By pressing the blocks into the ‘cookie’ — the name for the mixture of linseed oil, wood flour, limestone and resin — beautiful structures and perforated patterns are formed. Kita documented her various linoleum recipes in a ‘cook book’, showing interesting new possibilities for a traditional material.
