A Word for a Thing
Juliette Mirabito
Western society’s definitions of value, time and self is underwritten by the practices and logics of a governance based on a debt economy. Juliette Mirabito researched the internalisation of debt into bodies through behaviours, movement culture and politics of visibility. A notational score of key concepts expressed as graphs and formulas was developed to express the mechanisms of internalisation. Our selves and bodies are plastic, however, as performed in dancer Jeanne Emeriau’s interpretation of the score. It is in this plasticity that an opportunity lies to rethink and re-sequence the notions of value and time perpetuated by debt.
