New Rocks

New Rocks is a material research into the potential of transforming natural sediments found in disused mines and quarries to become rock again. With an eco-conscious mindset and diverse craft techniques, processes of rock formation are imitated as a natural human-made material emerges. New Rocks presents as a collection of rocks made from recycled construction materials, natural binding agents and sediments collected in multiple locations in Luxembourg, which undergo handmade processes of crystalisation, sedimentation, volcanic rock formation and erosion. All materials have been pre-extracted and are waste materials from industries which extracted sandstone, dolomite, limestone and iron ore. Tying into a transformative geological process, the new rocks will slowly erode and become sediments again–as new rocks from old rocks.
