Sorry, I’m Not Perfect
"Sorry, I’m Not Perfect explores the reconstruction of the Asian body in American culture. It begins with a creature awakening to a fractured world, its skin now synthetic and organs replaced by mechanical implants. Rips in its flesh expose metal and silicone, leaking and oozing. This creature roams, consuming those drawn to its exotic form—a being both feared and sought after.
The installation draws on aesthetics and materials from South Korea’s plastic surgery industry and Hollywood’s cyberpunk genre to evoke the tension between disaster and desire.
By reworking the cultural clichés of Asian bodies as artificial, ownable, and interchangeable from a perspective of Asian Futurism, the project reclaims Asian identity from existing solely in relation to Western fears and desires."
