Peeing Human

Jolien Marie Müller

Modern bathrooms with sterile white tiles and glaring lights aim to hide any trace of dirt, dust, pubic hair, and urine, treating them as unwelcome intruders. Cleanliness is prioritised over the process of cleansing. ‘Peeing Human’ challenges our spiritual disconnect from our bodies, reimagining bathrooms as spaces for deeper introspection. This pee fountain portrays our internal organs as a reversion of our external sewage system. Artistic representations of organs, crafted from clay, metal, and glass, capture the journey of fluids travelling through our bodies to eventually become urine. ‘Peeing Human’ suggests an alternative future where we embrace our bodies and their excretions, rather than letting taboos and shame rule our surroundings.
