Eyes and Tongues
Janfer Chung
In recent years, the political situation in Hong Kong has obliged many to consider how their identities, position and values can be preserved in the city they called home. Many have chosen to leave home and settle abroad. In search of her own memories and answers, Janfer Chung explored Edinburgh and London, the two cities filled with new diasporic communities of Hong Kongers. She lived and shared meals with them. They talked about their now inaccessible home, and how they will preserve and share their memories and stories with a future generation. A short film intertwines three narratives based on Chung’s findings regrading history, memory and freedom.
