Treatment for a Re-Connection

Jade Fritsch

Treatment for a Re-Connection is a heated chair that challenges the notion of comfort by breaking it down to the basic human need for warmth. Instead of heating a space, the seated person is warmed up through direct contact with the piece of furniture, inspired by ancestral concepts of localised fire and water heating systems. The low-tech furniture stores heat through the natural properties of its materials clay, fibres and sand, creating a microclimate that distributes heat over the course of the day, once disconnected from an electrical source. Originating from a research into off-grid living and permaculture, the piece follows a futuristic, yet down to earth and organic aesthetic and applies locally harvested materials.
