Responsive Furniture

Jade Chan

“How can I design everyday objects that are more fun to engage with?”

WHAT This coat stand, coffee table and shelf respond to our interaction with them. Proposing a more attentive and intimate relationship with the objects we live with, they push us to examine how we connect with our surroundings. WHY We live in an increasingly responsive world, where our technological devices provide constant immediate feedback. Yet our physical living environment remains static: objects exist in a fixed state, whether we interact with them or not. HOW By including springs into several everyday domestic objects, Jade Chan has made a range of furniture that introduces movement, receptivity and playfulness into our lives.
