kranti (revolution) |The spatial theatrics of counter propaganda
Ishani Chatterjee
A participatory theatre play explores the co-creation of narratives that counter the political and religious propaganda used by the Indian government.
It's 2023 and a multiethnic poly religious ‘secular’ democracy is governed by right-wing propaganda that enables the detention of ‘refugee’ Muslims. How is that? Step into The Parliament of the People, a theatrical exaggeration of public discourse in contemporary India. The project emerges from Ishani Chatterjee’s research into the nuances of political propaganda, drawing inspiration from everyday scenes in India and challenging the political mobilization of religion. Through participatory theatre, the project generates counter-narratives that engage the spectator with its curated agents of counter-propaganda. It aims to foster empathy, seek solidarity, and ignite a powerful motivation for ‘kranti’ (revolution).
